The Sophia is a luxury cottage that offers all the amenities of a much larger structure in an energy efficient, durable, and healthy footprint. The small house movement is a growing trend as couples look for ways to minimize their environmental footprint while living comfortably. This design provides for exactly that, with 600 square foot of conditioned space, durable materials, and multiple connections to the outside.
The living center features a large entertainment area with a state of the art kitchen. With energy efficient appliances and a functional layout, this kitchen not only will save you money, but will make dinner preparation a breeze. The living and dining room area that is open to the kitchen ensures that nobody is left out of the conversation. The large entertainment center features all radiant heated concrete floors that have incredible texture and character from an acid etching process. The 13’ vaulted ceiling allows for the ceiling fans to actively cool the space in the summer while the passive design features keep you warm all winter.
The sleeping center incorporates rich reclaimed wooden floors throughout the office and large master suite. There is also a full bathroom and a loft storage area for the off season clothes. This storage area could easily be upgraded to be used as an additional sleeping loft for those overnight guests. The office has plenty of light with a large window over the built in desk and a door to the covered porch. The bathroom features all water efficient fixtures and plenty of natural light. The covered porch that connects the two spaces can be used for a cool summer living room or enclosed for a winter solarium for growing kitchen herbs and watching the snow fall.
