Climate Change solutions can save you money. The conversation has started.

There are common sense changes that we could all make that will benefit you directly while also reducing the human impacts on climate change.

  1. Cutting your carbon emissions can save you money.
  2. Cutting your water usage  can save you money.
  3. Using more durable products will save you money.
  4. Living in a healthier home will save you money.
  5. Buying local will build a stronger community by keeping money in your community.

All of these changes reduce carbon emissions and therefore reduce environmental impact. This is about common sense solutions that benefit the user and the community. I am thrilled there has been a recent boost to the climate change discussion. I am incredibly sad that it took destruction,  death, and human suffering to spark the discussion again that should be mainstream on a daily basis. This is not a political issue, but it will take political leaders to guide us toward holistic solutions. While waiting for them, we should all start leading our own communities at home, neighborhood, and city levels to make positive changes.

Here are a few quotes from those with power on their feelings about climate change:

One planet, one experiment. ~ Edward O. Wilson

Our climate is changing. And while the increase in extreme weather we have experienced in New York City and around the world may or may not be the result of it, the risk that it might be – given this week’s devastation – should compel all elected leaders to take immediate action. ~ New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg

I think it is manmade. I think it’s clearly manmade. If you don’t understand what the cause is, it’s virtually impossible to come up with a solution. We know what the cause is. The cause is manmade. That’s the cause. ~ Joe Biden

The blunt truth about the politics of climate change is that no country will want to sacrifice its economy in order to meet this challenge, but all economies know that the only sensible long-term way of developing is to do it on a sustainable basis. ~ Tony Blair

Climate change should be seen as the greatest challenge to face man and treated as a much bigger priority in the United Kingdom. ~ Prince Charles

Climate change poses clear, catastrophic threats. We may not agree on the extent, but we certainly can’t afford the risk of inaction. ~ Rupert Murdoch

All across the world, in every kind of environment and region known to man, increasingly dangerous weather patterns and devastating storms are abruptly putting an end to the long-running debate over whether or not climate change is real. Not only is it real, it’s here, and its effects are giving rise to a frighteningly new global phenomenon: the man-made natural disaster. ~ Barack Obama

Climate change is a terrible problem and it absolutely needs to be solved. It deserves to be a huge priority. ~ Bill Gates

The impact of climate change is a tremendous risk to the security and well-being of our countries. ~ Nancy Pelosi

I believe global warming and climate change are real threats to our planet. ~ Andrew Cuomo

We are playing Russian roulette with features of the planet’s atmosphere that will profoundly impact generations to come. How long are we willing to gamble? ~David Suziki

Climate change is real. The science is compelling. And the longer we wait, the harder the problem will be to solve. ~ Senator John Kerry

First, I worry about climate change. It’s the only thing that I believe has the power to fundamentally end the march of civilization as we know it, and make a lot of the other efforts that we’re making irrelevant and impossible. ~ Bill Clinton

The facts are there that we have created, man has, a self-inflicted wound that man has created through global warming. ~ Arnold Schwarzenegger

If you asked me to name the three scariest threats facing the human race, I would give the same answer that most people would: nuclear war, global warming and Windows. ~ Dave Barry

I’d say the chances are about 50-50 that humanity will be extinct or nearly extinct within 50 years. Weapons of mass destruction, disease, I mean this global warming is scaring the living daylights out of me. ~ Ted Turner

Our generation has inherited an incredibly beautiful world from our parents and they from their parents. It is in our hands whether our children and their children inherit the same world. ~ Richard Branson

I think that Christian voters should start looking at global warming and extreme poverty as a religious issue that speaks to the culture of life. ~ Al Franken

Global warming is not a conqueror to kneel before – but a challenge to rise to. A challenge we must rise to. ~ Joe Lieberman
