The Cabin

Sitting on a scenic mountainside, this cozy, modern mountain cabin is affectionately referred to by our clients as “The Cabin” and is designed for comfort, stunning views, and sustainability. In the early phases, we worked through the design goals with our client to understand what they wanted to have included in their custom cabin design. The results are an open floor plan that allows for the family to gather and windows over expansive decks that frame breathtaking mountain views. A wrap-around porch and decks extend the living space outdoors and provide more gathering spaces. These decks were strategically designed to address the challenge of the high winds at this location. The winds atop the mountain pose similar challenges to coastal winds, which informed our structural design of the decks. Another goal was to add solar panels to the roof, so the orientation to capture both the views and ensure a roof form that allowed for solar took careful planning. Overall, the main goal of this cabin on the mountain and all the critical design details came back to being able to create a place to just relax and enjoy creation from a comfortable and accessible home.
